Australian Family History

1st July 2017

Family history research is an ongoing quest and it lasts a lifetime. There is always another bit of information or possibly an undiscovered newspaper clipping to find. An entry in a shipping list can provide a real insight into our ancestor’s journey. The past can be revealed in records from the war memorial office. And of course, birth, death, and marriage certificates provide a wealth of family connections.

Obituaries are fascinating because they often give more than just the bare facts. An obituary may contain a person’s occupation, their characteristics and achievements. Sometimes it includes unknown family members and their place of residence. Even very short obituaries might offer something unique.
